Normally, 'Kigumi' is located in high places of buildings and is out of reach. Holding 'Kigumi' in your hands, you will be amazed by its complex structure and precision. It is the core of wooden buildings like Horyuji Temple, which have stood for over a thousand years in earthquake-prone Japan without collapsing, using minimal nails. In addition to 'Kigumi', you can also see, touch, and experience most of the 17 constituent cultural heritages registered as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, including plastering and lacquering. Before and after visiting the 'Kigumi Museum', you can also visit Ana Hachimangu Shrine next door. Ana Hachimangu Shrine is said to have been founded in 1062 when Minamoto no Yoshiie (Hachiman Taro) dedicated a helmet and sword and enshrined the shrine as the guardian deity Hachiman. Minamoto no Yoshiie is an ancestor of Minamoto no Yoritomo, who opened the Kamakura shogunate (1185-1333), and Ashikaga Takauji, who opened the Muromachi shogunate (1336-1573). By seeing, touching, and experiencing these traditional architectural techniques cultivated in earthquake-prone Japan for over a thousand years, you will come to know the greatness of our ancestors' wisdom and gain a new perspective. This new perspective is sure to become a lifelong memory for you.
