Historical Connection Between Kagurazaka and Fukui
Did you know that Kagurazaka and Fukui have shared ties since the Edo period? In 1636, Tokugawa Iemitsu, the third shogun of the Tokugawa shogunate, ordered the construction of a road leading to the residence of Sakai Tadakatsu, lord of the Obama Domain (now Fukui Prefecture). That road became known as the Onari Dori, which today corresponds to Kagurazaka Street, the lively slope that still preserves its Edo charm.
