Why Not Join Tokyo’s Largest Traditional Performing Arts Festival – Completely Free of Charge?
The official English website for the Kagurazaka Street Stage O-edo Tour 2025, one of Tokyo’s largest traditional performing arts festivals, is now live. The event will take place on Saturday, May 17 and Sunday, May 18, 2025. Open to the public and entirely free of charge, it welcomes not only Japanese visitors but also a growing number of international guests each year. Whether you’re new to Japanese culture or a longtime fan, this is a perfect opportunity to explore the world of authentic traditional performing arts in an approachable and festive setting.

Now in its 13th year, the festival is held in Kagurazaka, a neighborhood in Tokyo known for preserving the charm of the Edo period (1603–1867). Once a thriving geisha district, Kagurazaka is steeped in history, artistry, and spirituality. The event brings traditional performances into the heart of the city—across alleys, shrines, temples, Noh theaters, and the main street—making the cultural richness of Japan accessible in everyday spaces.
This year’s festival ambassador is Dr. Robert Campbell, a leading scholar of Japanese literature and culture. He will help deepen the appreciation of Kagurazaka and its enduring connection to the performing arts.
We invite you to experience the living spirit of Japan through “Kagurazaka Street Stage O-edo Tour 2025,” where a wide array of talented artists will perform throughout the town.

While our company, EDO KAGURA Corporation, is not directly participating in the event, many of the same traditional cultural experiences featured in our tours will be showcased during the festival. These include Noh and Geisha performances, as well as Daikagura (Edo-style juggling and lion dance), Gagaku (imperial court music), and Tezuma (classical Japanese magic)—all of which are scheduled to be part of our tour offerings beginning in May. If you're curious about our programs, this is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy a preview free of charge.
