An Ideal Event for Beginners to the Geisha Experience in Tokyo
On Saturday, April 20, 2024, the "Seigakai" will be held at the Meijiza Theater. The Seigakai is an event organized by the dance master Hanayagi Suketarou.
Master Suketarou has been teaching dance to geisha from Kagurazaka, Asakusa, Kyoto’s Kami-Shichiken, and Hakata. This event will feature performances by geisha from each of these districts, making it a very glamorous occasion. It is an ideal event for beginners to the geisha experience in Tokyo.
Although the dances taught by the same master might minimize regional differences, there could still be subtle distinctions in their kimonos and other details. Identifying these differences is one of the pleasures of attending an event where geisha from various regions gather.
"Seigakai" Has an Exceptional Value
What makes the 'Seigakai' remarkable is the opportunity to watch over eight hours of geisha performances for only ¥10,000. Normally, an 'Ozashiki asobi'—a traditional geisha entertainment session with meals—would normally cost over ¥50,000 per person. Enjoying dances from geisha from four regions over eight hours for just ¥10,000 is an exceptional value for such an event. Additionally, since entry and exit are flexible, you can leave after enjoying your favorite geisha’s performance.
The following geisha from Kagurazaka will attend: Haruna, Koyo, Shiho, Fukuko, Mari, Maiko, Kiyono, and Konatsu.
